It stands for Business Improvement District. The North and South Barstow Business Improvement Districts work to improve and promote downtown, and to support the downtown business and property owners. The North Barstow/Medical BID and South Barstow BID have worked together the last several years to sponsor the People’s Choice Award. Each year, our winning sculpture is purchased by Sculpture Tour (thanks to these sponsorships) and donated to the city’s permanent collection.
Sculpture Tour Eau Claire is proud to announce “Salmon Runner” is the winner of the 2018 People’s Choice Award. “Salmon Runner” is a stylized brushed aluminum bear by Canadian artist Heather Wall. It is currently on display at the corner of Barstow and Main Streets in downtown Eau Claire. The sculpture will be purchased by Sculpture Tour and gifted to the City of Eau Claire for their permanent collection. It will remain in its current location through the end of this tour (mid-April) and then moved to a permanent site. “People’s Choice” is sponsored by the North Barstow/Medical BID Board and the South Barstow BID Board.
Other awards for this year’s tour include Best of Show-Bronze, awarded to “Jam ‘n’Eggs” by Minneapolis artist KimberFiebiger. The sculpture is currently displayed on the corner of Barstow and Gibson Streets. Best of Show-Other Materials is awarded to “Yosemite” a collaboration by two Minnesota high school teachers and their shop and art classes. Best of Show artists receive a $1000 cash award.
Sculpture Tour Eau Claire changes out the sculptures on tour every spring. With 54 sculptures this year, it is the 2nd largest tour of this type in the country. For more information on the tour, visit www.sculpturetour.org
