Gregory M. Mendez, born 1981, Decatur, Indiana, was first introduced to sculpture at the age of 10 through private art lessons. In 2000, he graduated from Bellmont High School, and pursued every opportunity to immerse himself in the study and practice of fine arts. Gregory received an art scholarship from the University of St. Francis Ft. Wayne, Indiana and graduated in 2006 earning a B.F.A. Today, Gregory is using the knowledge gained through his schooling and apprenticeships to combine the mediums of steel and scagliola to exemplify a new dimension of classical sculpture. In addition to his permanently placed public works and commissions, he also participates in community development by chairing a committee promoting public art on a local level.
