Call to Artists

Warmest greetings to our sculptors!

We invite you to submit your artwork for consideration for Sculpture Tour Eau Claire’s 2017 – 2018 Sculpture Tour Eau Claire. Sculpture Tour Eau Claire is an annual free outdoor exhibit of sculptures, which is on public display for 11 months. The sculptures are placed in highly visible public spaces, generally pedestrian walkways in our downtown area. The sculptures are outdoors and subject to all weather conditions.

Sculpture Tour Eau Claire began in June of 2011. Most sculptures are installed in Eau Claire’s downtown area, primarily along Barstow Street. However, as our tour expands, installations have spread out to include Water Street and the Mayo Clinic Health System Campus. The 2016 tour featured nearly half a million dollars’ worth of art.  Total sculpture sales through our program have valued over $400,000 and remain in Eau Claire.

The Chippewa Valley has enthusiastically embraced the Sculpture Tour and our artists. For the duration of each year’s show, the sculptures are “on loan” from the artists. Artists who deliver their work to Eau Claire and pick it up can receive stipends of up to $1000 for the first piece and $500 for any additional piece. The artist also receives an audience for their work, and exposure which could lead to a potential sale. Each sculpture must be available for sale, and STEC receives a 25% commission on all sculpture sold or commissioned. This supports our program sustainability into the future. Please price accordingly.

2017 Tentative Dates

  • Saturday, April 16, 2017: Delivery of sculptures being shipped into Eau Claire
  • Wednesday, May 10, 2017: Installation (at dawn)
  • Wednesday, May 10, 2017, 5-7:30PM: Artist Reception at The Livery, Downtown Eau Claire
  • April 2018: Approximate Tour End Date
We will include up to 35 sculptures in the 2017 tour.

The Eau Claire program is open to professional and amateur artists of all backgrounds. Artists may submit up to four (4) of their own original (in concept, composition, and execution) sculptures to Sculpture Tour Eau Claire. The entry fee is a “one time” fee of $25 per sculpture.

IMPORTANT! All submitted works must be constructed from materials that can withstand constant exposure to weather elements and temperature variances. The works will be displayed in an unprotected public forum, so all submitted works must be structurally sound enough to withstand some handling, touching, and possible physical stress. All sculptures need to be in NEW condition when delivered. We highly recommend that bronze and natural stone be sealed, steel be repainted, or other appropriate measures be taken to assure quality upon delivery depending upon your medium.

INSTALLATION: Sculptures must be delivered with a steel (not stainless steel) mounting plate on bottom, a minimum of 1/2” (half inch) larger than the sculpture itself. This allows us to weld the sculptures to our pedestal bases for a more secure installation. In rare exceptions (generally large scale artworks) other installation methods are utilized. Sculpture Tour Eau Claire will provide liability and Inland Marine insurance coverage (collision & comprehensive) on all sculptures.

  • PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARD (as determined by popular vote) PURCHASE AWARD UP TO $15,000!
    • We welcome sculptures of all ranges in value. However, this is a sponsored award and only sculptures that we can purchase at $15,000 or less are eligible.
